Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Nusantara Capital City Authority and the Government of Finland

JAKARTA - Indonesia and Finland strengthen their cooperation with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Smart City Cooperation between the Nusantara Capital Authority (NCA) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of the Republic of Finland (MEAE) at the NCA Office, Jakarta on Monday (29/01/2024).

For a long time, Indonesia and Finland have maintained productive cooperation, especially in the fields of energy, digitalization, and smart city development. The excellent trade relations between the two countries have been further strengthened by the celebration of the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

"Collaboration in the areas of urban development, digitalization, and energy is expected to take bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Finland to a new level. This step is expected to produce concrete results that directly benefit the citizens of both countries," said Willie Rydman, Minister of Economic Affairs of Finland.

In response to the current multidimensional challenges, Indonesia and Finland understand the importance of having international partners. Both countries are committed to creating comprehensive solutions that support the well-being and increase the happiness of the people, especially in the new capital.

In this regard, Bambang Susantono, the Chairman of NCA, stated, "We want Nusantara to also become one of the happiest cities in the world, how to do it by collaborating with a country that has earned that title. The method and measurement will be conducted through academic studies, and there will also be a pilot project."

In line with this, Deputy for Green and Digital Transformation, Prof. Mohammed Ali Berawi, mentioned that several research activities will be conducted,

"There will be research on City Happiness with the University of Turku, Finland starting next February, participatory urban planning workshops with the University of Turku in March, as well as discussions on the Measurement of Happiness Index and discussions on the PoC of Digital Twin by the SCIC consortium," he said.

The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding is a crucial milestone in achieving the shared goal of developing a sustainable and happy smart city for its residents.
