Masjid Negara Ready to be Built in Nusantara, Becoming a Symbol of National Unity and Religious Harmony

NUSANTARA - Spiritual development is also a significant aspect considered in the development of the Nusantara Capital. This became the focus during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Masjid Negara (National Mosque) in the Nusantara area by the President of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Joko Widodo, on Wednesday (18/1/2024).

"Masjid Negara will be proof that we are not only building the physical progress of the nation but also spirituality," said Joko Widodo.

Joko Widodo also mentioned that with a modern and futuristic design that showcases the authenticity of the Nusantara in its architecture, it is expected to become an exemplary national mosque in other countries.

"In the future, we will not only build mosques. Other places of worship such as the Basilica (Catholic), Vihara (Buddhist), Pura (Hindu), Church (Christian), and Klenteng (Confucian) will also be built in the Nusantara area, considering their functions and green and smart designs," added Joko Widodo.

The Minister of Religious Affairs of Indonesia, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, stated that the construction of the National Mosque in Nusantara is a parallel form of physical and spiritual development and the implementation of the values of diversity philosophy.

"Masjid Negara in Nusantara has at least two philosophical values: (1) The circular building design symbolizes national unity and religious harmony in Indonesian society; (2) It becomes a symbol of strengthening the relationship with God, the relationship between human beings, and the relationship with nature," said Yaqut.

Masjid Negara will be the main place of worship in the Nusantara's KIPP (Core Area of Government Center) and will be a new religious tourism destination in East Kalimantan Province, with a building area of approximately ± 59,081 m2 and a capacity of 61,317 worshipers.

In line with the start of the construction of the National Mosque, the Chairman of the Nusantara Capital Authority, Bambang Susantono, also expressed his attention regarding this groundbreaking. "The most important thing for us at the NCA is to maintain the momentum of development and also to maintain the market interest shown from the interest that comes to us and also the realization from the groundbreaking," he added when asked for a press statement.
