Groundbreaking Of PSSI Training Center as Proof of FIFA's Great Trust in Indonesia

NUSANTARAThe Government of the Republic of Indonesia through the Nusantara Capital Authority (NCA), the Ministry of Public Works and Housing of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs of The Republic of Indonesia, and the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) together with FIFA are collaborating to start a project to build a National Training Center of football in the Nusantara. This was marked by the holding of the PSSI Training Center Groundbreaking event in the Nusantara, especially in the Kawasan Inti Pusat Pemerintahan Sub-WP 1B East Kalimantan, Indonesia on Friday (22/09/2023).

The PSSI Training Center is a National Football Training Center which will be built on 34.52 hectares of land and will also be the first National Football Training Center in Indonesia. This is in accordance with the speech delivered by the General Chair of PSSI, Erick Thohir. In his speech he conveyed "the long-awaited dream that the Indonesian football lovers community has been waiting for, where we can finally make history by having a training center for the Indonesian national football team".

Besides that, the main reason for building this training center is to improve the quality and achievements of Indonesian football. This is done with a training center with international standard facilities ranging from infrastructure to the training methodology used later. Regarding the reasons for building the training center, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, in his speech said "this place is not only a training center, but also a center for innovation, development of Indonesian football, and facilitating research and testing of the latest technology in the sport of football."

The construction of the PSSI Training Center in the Nusantara consists of two stages. The first phase (November 2023 - Mid 2024) source funds from FIFA amounting to 85,6 billion Rupiah and the second phase (2024) will come from sponsors. This is a sign that FIFA has great trust in Indonesia in development in the sports sector, especially football. In line with what was conveyed by the General Chair of PSSI in his speech, "FIFA is currently assisting with funding of approximately 85,6 billion Rupiah for the first phase. This is the first time FIFA has given a grant of this size to a country.

FIFA said that the funding provided by this institution is not limited to the sports sector, but is also related to the sustainability of government in the Indonesian capital. This was stated by the FIFA Regional Director of Asia and Oceania, Sanjeevan C Balasingam, in his speech, "Not only committed to developing Indonesian football, but also investing in the future of Indonesia as a nation by supporting the Indonesian government to develop the new capital city by funding the first international sport in infrastructure in Nusantara, Kalimantan”.

In the development process, NCA will play a role in providing 34.52 hectares of land and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing of the Republic of Indonesia will play a role in developing basic infrastructure which will also collaborate with Adhi Karya as a State-Owned Enterprise. After the first phase of construction is complete, in the second phase of construction there will be the construction of eight football fields, a training room, a rehabilitation room, and a dormitory. Besides that, several supporting infrastructure will also be built such as a swimming pool, a special area for tactical and physical training, and a mini stadium with a capacity of 600 spectators.
